The Art of Fielding is my favorite read for 2011. Charlie caught my eye in the furniture store after an alcohol-fueled lunch with my friend Dave Gregory.  Goaded-on and always susceptible to dares, I adopted him.  His name was Charlie and he was adorable, albeit a bit stiff, and I fell for him.  We put the top down on Dave's convertible, lay Charlie in the front seat and took him home to my loft in Jack London Square.

It was an autographed copy, which means it's better than reading one that is not autographed. There’s my BBFF (Jules), my sister BFF (Terri) and then there are the Four Quadruplets, my BFF’s and sisters. And yes, it’s redundant. We were named by my nephew Fabian when he was but a mere child (about the same time he asked his mother if Auntie Evy was white. Occasionally, I am.)

This is a photo of my dad on his first birthday, on January 20, 1926. He would have been 85 this year; he passed away at 47 years old, a lifetime ago.
